Choose this option for individual applications below 16 years of age. NOT for adult applications.

16 and 17 year old children ARE REQUIRED to attend the appointment along with a guardian.

Children under 16 years old do not need to attend.

An affidavit is a written statement that allows the person making it to present evidence in court or other legal proceedings. The person making the affidavit must take an oath or make an affirmation that the contents of the affidavit are true and correct.

- Your document for apostille/authentication
- Proof of Identity (Passport, Driver's Licence)

Apostilles and Authentications

Choose this option for the undertaking of Apostille or authentication. Please check with the authority requesting the document to confirm the appropriate service (apostille or authentication) is provided for your documents to be accepted. Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage

Choose this option for witnessing applications forms for, and issuing of, Certificates of No Impediment to marriage (CNI).

What to bring:
- Completed Certificate of No Impediment to Marriage form

You are advised to check local requirements with the foreign government on what is required to be issued. Consular officers cannot advise on other countries specific requirements for Australians to get married overseas.

Certifying a copy of a document

This service is provided by Consular Officers with the following wording "this is a true copy of the document presented to me". We cannot provide alternative wording.

It is your responsibility to ensure that the end user of the certified copy of a document will accept the copy.

This service is for Australian Commonwealth Statutory Declarations Act 1959 that require a Consular Officer to witness signature. This service is for Australian documents, or foreign documents intended for use in Australia.

- Proof of Identity (Passport)

What we cannot do:
- Witness foreign declarations
- Witness declarations that are not in the correct format
- Provide advice on the requirements of your document.

State and Territory Statutory Declarations

This service is for the witnessing of Australian State and Territory Statutory Declarations ONLY. This is NOT for Commonwealth Declarations.

What to bring:
- Your completed UNSIGNED declaration
- Proof of Identity (Passport)

What we cannot do:
- Witness foreign documents
- Witness declarations to be used outside of Australia
- Witness declarations that are not in the correct format
- Provide advice on the requirements of your document.

Witness Driver's Licence Renewal

This service is for witnessing signatures on Driver's Licence Renewal.

The Australian High Commission in Kuala Lumpur does not renew driver's licences.

You will need to contact the relevant State Government Licence issuing Authority in Australia to obtain the necessary forms to renew your licence while residing overseas, which may need to be witnessed by a Consular Officer.

What to bring:
- Your completed UNSIGNED renewal form
- Photo (if required)
- Proof of identity (Passport)

Land Transfer/Mortgage Documents (All States except Western Australia)

This service is for Consulate Officers to witness signatures on land transfer or mortgage documents for properties.

What to bring:
- Written instructions from one of the following: Australian legal practitioner, law practiced licensed conveyance, mortgagee (eg. your bank)
- Proof of Identity (Passport)
- Correctly prepared forms

We can only perform this service where written instructions from the Australian Legal Practitioner are presented. If written instructions are not presented the service will be declined.

We cannot complete Verification of Identity of Witness Certificates from your bank or state regulatory body. The Consulate can instead provide certified or a DFAT Identity Certificate (Copy available at our office) to be performed at the same time as the witnessing and certifying functions of a land or property transaction.

Witness signatures on Australian documents

As each document is different, consular officers at the High Commission are not able to provide advice on the requirements of your particular document. It is your responsibility to check with the originator or end user of the document whether an Australian Consular Officer is able to witness your signature on the document.

We are only able to witness documents to be used in Australia and are not able to witness documents with another country's legislation.
